Our Story

How it all started...

In the Spring of 1998, four lifelong friends followed the Lord’s calling to share the gospel
and disciple Pastors in Nicaragua. Confirmation of God’s path forward occurred when
one of the Nicaraguan Pastors said, “We’ve been praying for you to come and teach
us”. Project H.O.P.E. (Hear Our Prayers Emmanuel) was formed. However, God had
much bigger plans in store.

In the fall of 1998, Hurricane Mitch devastated many portions of Nicaragua. Soon after,
one of the local Pastors in training took the four friends and their wives to a devastated
area along the Rio Coco River. What they saw forever changed the course of Project
HOPE. People were hungry and their shelter was made out of anything they could find
like tarps and sticks. In the Spring of 1999, they all returned and began to help build
homes and provide food. As word spread among friends back at home, one after
another wanted to go and serve.

In 2006 a permanent base was built where short-term mission teams stay. In 2015
Project HOPE again followed God’s calling to begin work in the central plateau region in
Haiti. A permanent base camp was constructed there as well. Both bases serve as
Headquarters for the in-country staff. Ministries have expanded well beyond Pastor
training and building houses, but the heart of Project HOPE remains the same. Building
relationships and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others.
